    Title: Monitoring Process Variability Using S-square GWMA Control Charts

    Abstract: Generally weighted moving average (GWMA) control charts are regarded as one of the most popular statistical tools in detecting small process mean shifts. However, there are few studies concentrating on the monitoring of process variability by using GWMA control charts. In this paper, we propose an s-square GWMA for monitoring process variability whose control statistic is based on a three-parameter logarithmic transformation. Numerical simulations are used to compute the run length profiles of the proposed chart. Comparisons are made with some existing charts from the literature and A simulated dataset is also used to explain the working and implementation of the s-square GWMA control chart.

    Biodata: Professor Shey-Huei Sheu is a Chair Professor of Department of Statistics and Informatics Science at the Providence University. He is an Honorary Chair Professor of the Department of Industrial Management at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. He received his M.S. degree (1979) in applied mathematics from the National Tsing Hua University and his Ph.D. degree (1987) in statistics from the University of Kentucky.   2. Prof. Ratchatin Chanchareon

    Title: 3D Printing: Research and Service at Chulalongkorn university

    Abstract: The Additive Manufacturing (AM) is an automated process to fabricate three-dimensional object by successive depositing material, mostly in layer by layer. The emerging technology attract a lot of attention from both academics and industrial persons. The talk will give the introduction of AM technology, its benefits and limitation. Then, the presentation will cover (1) the research project at Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University: the past; present; and future, (2) Some AM project briefs, and (3) The real problems and challenges within. The 3D printing ecosystem and the collaboration at the university is also mentioned in the talk.

    Biodata: Dr. Ratchatin Chancharoen is currently an Associate Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He received his BS degree in mechanical engineering from Chulalongkorn University in 1991, MS degree in mechanical engineering from Oregon State University in 1994, and PhD degree in mechanical engineering from Chulalongkorn University in 2000. Dr. Ratchatin Chancharoen has twenty years’ experience in robotics research including both manipulators and mobile robots and ten years in teaching both Robotics and Mechatronics at the university level. During these years, he has designed and built more than twenty robots in various configurations and published more than 20 research papers and one text book entitled "Linear Control Systems" (in Thai). He is principal investigator and co-investigator of several research grants in robotics and also the manager of a number of industrial projects in design and control. His current research activities involve 3D printing based on syringe pump, auger pump, and gear pump for gel like materials. He also developed a novel drive mechanism for collaborative robot such that force, compliance, and position can be controlled in one axis. His main research interests are in the field of Robotics, Mechatronics, and Cyber Physical System including new hardware processor, electronics, control algorithm, and intelligence.​

    Prof. Tarun Gupta
    Western Michigan University, USA

    Biodata: Dr. Tarun Gupta is Professor in the Department of Industrial & Entrepreneurial Engineering at Western Michigan University. He is a Ph.D. in 1988 from University of Wisconsin in industrial & systems engineering with a minor in computer science; a 1979 BS in Mechanical Engineering from IITBHU Varanasi, and 1981 MS from NITIE (National Institute in Industrial Engineering), Mumbai India with a master’s in Industrial & Systems Engineering. His prime areas of research are design & analysis of manufacturing systems, manufacturing automation, lean manufacturing and robotics. He has also continued to conduct research in nano-sciences area, machine learning and data analytics applications in advanced manufacturing systems. He has published over 100 papers in his areas of interest. He has also been the recipient of numerous consulting & research grant assignments from area industry for specific manufacturing systems problems related to his research interests. Dr. Gupta has also served as associate editor of International Journal of Robotics and Automation and continues to serve as reviewer of scholarly journals which includes International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Nano photonics, International Journal of Computer & Industrial Engineering, IJCI, Journal of Carbon & Journal of Operations Management. He has served on many state and federally funded research proposals review panels as well. He is a member of IEEE, life-time member of SME, life-time member of Society of Photonics & Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), and a past member of IIE, ORSA, ASEE. He has also served on ten doctoral committees including one currently as chair of the committee, in addition to over fifty graduate student projects and theses combined.
